2009 ICA Convention - Las Vegas

I got a great package deal (I thought so anyway)...Round Trip air from Sarasota, Florida, 5 nights at LV Hilton... $ $650.00.

The cheapest I could find a room at LV Hilton online was $149 a night.

rph9168, how or where did you get $45 and $55 a night???

What airline flies out of Sarasota? Nonstop?

Airtran out of Sarasota. 1 Hour layover in Atlanta....then on to Vegas.

Delta also flies out of Sarasota but wanted almost double the fare of Airtran.

Dean - the ICA just released this on the website if you wanted to stay at the Hilton:

New $99 Room Rate at the Las Vegas Hilton
The International Carwash Association has negotiated room rate of $99 per night at the Las Vegas Hilton - the official hotel reservation partner for Car Care World Expo 2009. Make sure to book your hotel room today to take advantage of this great deal!

Car Care World Expo Update

I just got a Care Care World Expo email update from Eric Wulf @ ICA with some numbers about the show in Vegas. These are total registration numbers from 2007 & 2008, and the to-date numbers for 2009. The numbers do not look good for 2009 as we all would suspect. As an exhibitor this does not make me feel optimistic and enthusiastic.

President Lisa posted above that the room rate at the Hilton was renegotiated down to $99 per night most likely due to the Hilton facing reality and wanting to boost room sales. Now, Lisa, wouldn't it be a good time for the ICA to face reality and reduce the price of a 3-Day Expo pass from $99 down to say $49?? After all, we exhibitors need the traffic at the show to keep paying the high cost of exhibiting.

My own decision making about shows has made me pass up the Heartland and the SCWA shows so far this year and I haven't booked the WCA show where I first started.

Think about it! Maybe the total attendance will increase at Vegas rather than keep decreasing.

Uncle Sam :(

rph,

These are "9 week-out numbers"--Paid registrants, 156 and total registrants, 506. I think the total includes all of the exhibitors.

I would like to go. I'm checking on flights right now.

I know that the exhibitors aren't happy about the attendance numbers. But if I am able to get some more face time to ask questions and such, I think that would be great.

WOW. Those are some pretty ugly numbers. In the past when show attendance was low most of the attendees were serious buyers or good customers keeping up with the latest innovations. With a number that low at this point it looks like the vendors will be in for a long three days.

I know that several companies have canceled or cut back some of their normal show activities like hospitality suites or even distributor meetings as well as the number of employees that will be attending.

I hope registrations pick up before the show. The show always seems better when attendance is good.

I am staying way off the strip at the Green Valley Ranch and it is less expensive. The improved price at the Hilton really helps because you don't need a car. A 3rd option is to always call and ask for a casino rate at the hotel of your choice. Whether you gamble or not, the rate is cheaper. I are taking Southwest but the fare is still higher, the flight isn't direct and I have to go to a bigger airport 2+ hours away.

The party will be on the 2nd, Show closes at 6 party will be at Tony Romas, (around the corner) at 7. I need to know who will be there.

I was speaking to a very prominent equipment manufacturer last night and he is only taking less than half the number of employees as usual. I wouldn't be surprised to see total attendance of less than 5000 combined for all three days.

Unless something else comes up, I will try to attend.

FYI - I noticed in registering our badges for the show that the kickoff breakfast is no longer included in the Exhibitor badges but can be purchased for $30.

In talking around the office, we are all going to be in the Paradise Cafe in the Hilton the opening morning of the 2nd between 7:30 and 8. We can have our own kickoff breakfast there.
