Laurel Vender Retrofit

I'd like to start converting my "green board" (small digital display) venders to the "blue board" for CryptoTap to start selling some of the $5 & up vend kits.
Understanding KR recommends the full retrofit kit to do this, I was wondering if anybody has just replaced the door and notched the security frame out for the display.
It seems I can do this for $394 instead of $1050 for each vender. What am I missing?

Retrofit kit: $1050

Door: $100
Blue board: $294.10
Blue Board cover: $8.57
Notching security frame in shop: $0
----------------------
Total: $402.67

Edit: *sigh* I missed where they provide the $510 CryptoTap but that's still $137.33 to notch a security frame.

Good that you picked up the big dollar difference, Tap unit does add a lot.
Curious how you would cut out the notch in the security frame, that is not a simple task since it is 12 gauge stainless. I think you would want it cleanly cut since that area is where every customer is looking at, here is how it looks when we use a punch press to do it:Cutout in security frame.jpg

I've done a couple with a dremel + angle grinder, its not that hard to do but I did need a second step of polishing the edges a little to get them smooth and clean looking.
Subsequent upgrades I decided to just buy the kit. Not because I did a bad job, mostly because the savings are not significant enough to justify the time and effort.
One tip I can give if you DIY, be careful not to leave burn marks from the cutting tools on the steel, that doesnt look so great.

Appreciate that.
I normally don't sweat the price for something that needs to last/look nice for the long term but may be dealing with a multiple of 10X, possibly even 20X and trying stuff like this is in the DNA. I have a few damaged spares that can be practiced on with a nibbler and plasma cutter. If that goes well, my hope is to find an efficient method and knock them out like an assembly line.

Thanks Chip, that looks great.
You'll get the call if the experiment goes sideways 😆

I did retro fits at one wash maybe 6 or 7 years ago. The next one, since hind sight is 20/20, i figured out i was cheaper to just discard the single column vendors and buy new 3 column already built and ready to go. Pair that when Kleen rite does a free fill where you get free vending supplies to stock it and youre ahead big time. You can fit 2 3 column vendors in the same space as 3 single column so you can sell 6 items in the same foot print as 3. See where im going?? If you dont buy new and be done with it!!

Great idea!
Something I hadn't considered.
They are mounted in twos due to space limitations but might have some wiggle room to pull it off.
Thank you!

They are the same size as a 5 column little tree vendor for reference and measuring. I had some of the same restrictions and wound up being able to put a 3 column and tire foam together in one spot and a 3 column and armorall bottle in another. A little tree and a single column with a kit in another.
