Water softener before carbon filter?

Trying to understand how I can put water softener before the carbon filter tank. For a purclean RO 1,000gpd. The water softener only house a 1/4 hose in and out. The carbon filter has a timer on the top with the inlet and outlet. I don’t know what I’m doing so anything helps.

It's as simple as you said, plumb a water softener inline before the entire RO system.

1/4" hose out of the top of the softener? That is probably the brine line that should be connected to your brine tank. Your softener whould have 3/4" or larger in and out ports. Feel free to email some pictures if you'd like.
