Air Compressor top of tank check valve premature failure?

For some unknown reason our 23405L Ingersoll Rand 2 stage Air Compressor's Check Valve - p/n 85582229 Valve have not been lasting. As in less than a year going out. I am suspicious that the replacements are not as good as the OEM part. Anybody else having a similar problem. The retailer says that I am the first out of over 250 to have their valve's spring & seat prematurely failing to seal. They offered to have me send it back but with 2 way shipping & the uncertainty that their manufacturer may reject warranty (less than 5 months life) ... I am leaning towards not bothering.

They will warranty it.

That valve is the #1 issue I've had with I/R compressors. You'll probably find the poppet cracked in half when you take it out.
 
I have replaced 2 of them on my Ingersoll 2340 pump compressor in 10 years. Its a pain in the azz to get to it.

Can you tell if the company you bought it from gave the appearance that it was an actual OEM part or from Ingersoll Rand or exceeds specs?

We took the snap ring off & the whole valve is only 5 parts: the body, the snap ring, the teflon looking poppet, the spring & brass disc holding the spring & snap ring. I haven't seen a kit available for for it yet.

In this specific case the ... teflon looking poppet ... does not show any signs of even having a hairline crack. There does not seem to be any tiny pieces of dirt in the valve that would cause the seat not to seal.

We are thinking maybe the spring was engineered a bit too weak could be a cause for premature failure.

You could be right because the retailer is not specifying or swearing to it that the part came from Ingersoll Rand itself. Some retailers advertise the valve for the IR 2340L5 as a different part number than 85582229 ... these p/n are also listed as working part numbers 9733165 & 85582112. Plenty confusing IMHO ... maybe serial number issue ...??? It seems there could be lot lower cost kit. The part prices range from $19 - $80. 2 outfits specifically state exceeds OEM or is the exact Ingersoll Rand OEM.

Thanks for shedding light on the labor factor of replacing the valve.

We had the original check valve last for over 10 years on this same IR 2340 so this is a new situation. I came across a possible ?replacement pump in case IR 2 stage pump goes out but that still does not address the check valve going out. I wonder if dirty air is getting by the filters?
 
Why do you think the check valve in the tank is bad?

Well, we were fussy on any connections so the air leaking was not coming from threads. Unexplained air was heard leaking in the pressure switch area with the subsequent more cycling needed to keep tank full. Each time we put a new tank check valve on it took care of the problem for at least several months. The main reason for the thread is to see if anybody else has had a quality issue with the replacement tank check valves or if they have found something contributing to the premature failures. Such as a tank check valve getting dirty or whatever.
