LW4000 tire change...what tools?

Folks,
I am checking to see what tools you use to make quick and simple work for changing the LW4000 tires. Anybody use a bead breaker? If so, which one? Had a tough go with my last group of tires. I bet there is something that will make getting the old tire off easier. That's why I am asking you! Thanks a ton!
 
I have split rims and just pull them apart with a flat screw driver. I have never used a bead breaker. When I re assemble I use a bit of wd40 on the bead, this makes it easier to take apart later. Don't use too much or tire will slip and damage tubes
 
I just use a flathead screw driver. Never had any problems, I generally can get the rims off within a minute or two. Using the no flat tires is really the way to go though IMO. Change once or twice a year and never worry about any errors that come about because of flat tires.
 
A little mildly soapy water would probably be better on the tire bead than WD-40.

There are also 2-piece stainless steel rims. I've seen them but don't know where to get them.
 
Kleen Rite sells the stainless split rims. If you have split rims when you take them off put two bolts in holes to keep the 2 pieces clamped together. I still dont know why they used such big bolts on those wheels!!???? The socket barely fits between the nut and the wheel half they are a pain in the azz. I keep a spare pair ready to go.

You should be able to get bolts with a smaller hex head at a specialty bolt supply place.

How do they work in cold temps? I've heard they slip? I have diamond plate welded to my rails. Do you think the extra thickness would be problematic i.e. Burning motors, slipping etc. thanks!

If you have double doors..and if I recall right you do, then you will be fine in the winter. We had some problems with them in single digit days where they would slip, but this was when we only ran one door. Double doors keep the bay temp above 40 degrees anyways. The only problem really is that they will slowly start to sponge up water, absorb it and then get heavy. I just put it on my annual maintenance list to spend the 120 bucks or whatever it is for 4 of them and replace all 4 right before winter. I do this once a year, and have zero problems, ever, with tires.

We have the diamond plate on our rails, it's not an issue. We did drive screws through the rims into the tire when we only ran one door, and yah it did work like a charm. But fortunately we don't need to do that anymore.
