Slant car wash systems,

A OL slant brush a stand alone automatic not a tunnel/conveyor is what we call them in the south I don't know if we are talking about the same Kind of machine https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0pZV7nCRkc. My grandpa had one at a site in eastern Part of NC about 10 years ago we sold the site and my dad had one back in the day in the late 80"s in VA. The slant brush and the southern pride Turbo was about your only two options really in the 80"s for the carolinas before the Laserwash 4000 hit the seen in the early 90"s this is what everyone had before then. Very aggressive friction machine shake & rock the crap out of the car and you where lucky if your antenna was still on or not bent at the end of the wash. These are what gave carwashes a bad reputation back in the day. Maybe some of the older guys/operators will correct me but I am pretty sure.

They were made in Danville, Virginia and I think they were a subsidiary of the Bivens-Winchester Corp.

I saw several of the rollovers in the 80's. 45 degree slanted side brushes could only wash the sides - did not wrap around. Front and rear cleaning was done with two overhead brushes that were hung in opposing directions on the front and rear of the machine.

Earl's tunnel unit looks basically just like what I remember the rollover looking like, only it is stationary.

They also made this funky machine that was an early attempt at a hybrid inbay:

They called it the "Tunnel on Wheels"

Let is know when your book is out - I'd like to read it.

Memory spurred by this/ I believe the principal we dealt with was Ted Winchester. Maybe he is still around. He was working with another company when I lost saw him at the ICA show.
