When do you turn on the hot water tanks?

To my Cold States operators, when do you turn on your hot water tanks for your washes?

My mornings are cold 20's and 30's and the tunnel heaters are operating but I haven't turned on the hot water.

What is your rule of thumb?

Thanks in Advance!

i use hot all year long. i use hot / cold mix in hp soap, wax and foamy brush. i use hot / cold mix to apply presoaks and foam polish on my IBA. it cleans better IMO so I save money elsewhere.

Hot water for washing stays on all year. I have a cold water line T'd in to the supply so I can use less in the hot weather. Floor heat and Trough heat are turned on October 1. Gives me time to make sure it''s working. Nov. 1 has been a date following which we have had hard freezes. I am in Chicago and last Saturday am it was 24 degrees.

FWIW in the Tunnel I think slightly warming the water in warm months helps the foaming and cleaning action and for DA it seems to help but the setting arch seems to work better cold.

Earl, do you slightly warm the water for your tunnels? Do you only do this during warm months or all year? Does it make a make a noticeable difference in foaming/cleaning/DA? How much more do you think it costs versus just using cold water?

I warm the water slightly in the warm months and as it gets colder out I increase warm and reduce cold. If it gets below 20 I may use only hot but that is just to the solutions. I have no exact figures for extra cost but my best guess is it's nominal because summer bills are small and it includes Hot water for bathrooms and Washer. I got a rude surprise recently. I had Gas shut off at meter and was still getting bills for $350 a month for Utility Charge, storage Charge and taxes etc.
