Water softner mineral tank

I have a mineral tank on a water softner that where the head screws into the top the threds in the tank are cracked. When the head is screwed on the unit will spray out the side. I have put a sealent on the threads, srewed the head onto the tank and put a 2 part epoxy around the head and the tank on the outside to try and seal it Does any one have any other suggestions on what might work. I want to try 1 more time to try and fix this unit before i replace the tank at the tune of 1500 dollars.

Unless the tank is huge it shouldn't cost that much to replace. I wouldn't waste much time trying to repair it.

If you can find the crack on the outside of the threads grind a groove in it and get some fiberglass epoxy and fill the groove, also if you have a good plumbing supply co. around get some "expand-o" pipe dope and use as directed. it is a pipe sealant that has to mixed and sets up in about three min and expands into the threads to seal. But there is no taking it apart without possable damage if it does not work.
