Water Softener replacemetn input????

mjwalsh

6 bay SS w/laundromat
We have 2 two 65" high 16" diameter with 2 brine tanks Ecowater water softener system. They were in 1987 the more efficient gallon count-microprocessor style. 1-1/2" is their piping manifold size. One of the twin softener's has developed a leak in the middle of its now obsolete fiberglass head. We took the head off to a fiberglass repair shop. Ater a 24 hour cure time the patch allows tiny seepage!!! Anybody successful doing that?

It looks like since the system is 21 years old we will be looking for a new system. Any suggestions on the current brands & options---- softener wise. I am very conscious of water pressure drop through these softeners so I would like to improve on that. Hopefully, there can be salt & water efficiency gains. I don't know how though --- unless they have improved the gallon count technique.

I've always had great luck with Fleck heads.

Pressure drop is usually more of a concern because of the vessels than from the head, unless that is undersized.

I wouldnt replace it an entire softener just because a fiberglass tank had a leak, I'd replace the fiberglass tank.

FYI, I've dealt with softenerparts.zoovy.com before, I got good service.

Cleaning up mud, just wondering if the "electronic" water softener substitute is still working. Any spotting problems or suprises that you have found?

Thanks for any info you or anyone else has. Looks like I need to replace my 14 year old softener. Every time we fix one problem something else seems to come up.

Tell us more...are you feeding this water into an ro unit? Did you have a conventional softener before this? If so...did you need to make any changes to your chemical mixtures? How many grains of hardness is your incoming water?

I'm sorry for all the questions but inquiry minds want to know;) This technology has always intrigued me but I've been skeptical and wanted someone else to be first...you;)
