Testing a proximity switch.

Found a used proximity switch last night in with stuff left from my wash's previous owner.

How do I test it so I know whether to keep or not?

find a switch on your equipment ,and plug it in ,put something metel in front of it ,and then go see if the input is on for the switch you took the cable off of.
