I decided to start a new thread because of how much has transpired since my Sta-Rite Pump went bad back in December. Without rehashing every detail, I just installed my third replacement production pump since December. Today I installed a Dayton pump and everything seems to be working OK except I have zero PSI on my pump gauge. It is producing 004 TDS and the production water is at about 1.75 gallons with reject at about 4 gallons. I do not know however at what pressure it is producing this though. I turned the regulator up until I saw the reject flow meter starting to bounce and could hear the pump starting to pulse the water through the membranes, then backed it off. I am assuming that the gauge is bad but not sure if anything else could be causing the zero reading. Also, if someone has a clear understanding of what the backwash solenoid does I would certainly like to hear it. I realize that it comes on periodically to back wash the membranes but cannot understand the water movement when it opens.

RO systems don't have a "backwash" feature - the solenoid you mentioned just opens and allows all the flow to go to reject without building any pressure on the membrane.

It sounds like, given the product/reject ratios, that you're making RO like you should be. If you're getting less than you usually do, the pump might not be fully primed.
