HELP! '05 Honda Element came in today for a waxing. Customer asked about removal of thread-like material that was stuck to the paint and plastic trim ( been there for a long time, according to customer).

We were able to literally chip it loose from the paint, but from the plastic it could not be budged. Tried everything on hand, including citrus solvent, alcohol, mineral spirits, compound, Flitz, concentrated detergents, plastic scraper...., with no results.

Just Googled this stuff. Removal appears to be nightmarish, if not impossible. Sounds like the base is in the super-glue family. I'm afraid to get any more aggressive for fear of damaging the trim or leaving streaks, which would be more obvious and unsightly.

Sounds pretty harmless in the party supply ads, but use is being banned often for the damage it can do.

Anyone had any experience removing this stuff?

Thanks.

Have you tried a heat gun like you use to remove decals?

Found on another forum someone claims WD40 will remove it from the plastic and rubber trim but not on the paint. If it works I have no idea but its worth a try.

WD 40 didn't touch it. Goof-Off worked better, but took some of the texture with it. We decided to leave well enough alone.

Thanks, again, for the suggestions.
