Selecting a worthy cause

By far the best day for me at the wash is the Veterans Day wash we have in conjunction with Grace for Vets. We have been doing it for about 4-5 years now and each year is better than the last.

This year we also collected donations for the Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center. This is their link: http://www.veterans-outreach.org/

I think I may make this outreach center the focus of all my charity work through the business, however humble and small it currently is.

What do you think of this idea? I mentioned it to my employees and they began offering ideas right away; offering a hand wash day, completed by my employees, where proceeds go to the M.V.O.C., etc.

I feel like our efforts will yield better results if we focus on something specific.

For a few years we focused our charity work on one organization; after a few years I think it (our efforts) got kind of stale. Changing it up periodically helped.

strongly agree.

In my experience, giving others control over charity efforts invests them, and results are much better for everybody.

I think picking a local cause and letting the local media know about it works well. You support something that benefits people in your area and get some positive advertising.

Years ago the washes I was working at donated a dollar for every vehicle we washed on a busy Saturday to a local woman who needed a kidney transplant. All the local TV stations and newspapers ran stories on it. Not only did we help a young woman that needed it but we got great press and many positive comments from our customers. We had 5 washes and donated almost $4,000.
