Partner gets a call at one location saying:

This is "Com Ed" (The local electric provider is Commonwealth Edison) you owe $175.00 on your bill and we are going to shut off your electricity iof you don't pay immediately.

Partner says "How could that be, our bills run $2000.00 / Month?"

Guy says "you must have paid wrong amount on one."

Partner says, give me your # so I can check this out and call you back."

Guy says if you hang up, the electricty will be cut off and cost you $200.00 reinstatement fee."

Partner says "Is this Commonwealth Edison.?"

Guy says this is "Com Ed." (Note: we use aan alternate provider and bills come from them and are auto paid to our CC.)

Partner says "Tell me the account #. " Guy says "No, you tell me and I will tell you if it's correct/"

Partner: "How do I know this is legit"

Guy; "I will give you my ID # and you can check with your CC issuing bank & they will confirm we only charged $175.00"

Partner hangs up and calls Com Ed. After being put on hold for a while they get back to him an confirm that they have been getting calls about this scam.

You think that they would be smart enough not to call businesses, but little old people would seem to fall for this.

Watch out for the "calls from Microsoft" too, especially when they have a "India" accent.
