Peeling paint - 2001 GMC Yukon

I.B. Washincars

Car Washer Emeritus
I have a customer that just had massive patches of paint peel from the roof of her Yukon in my Mark VII IBA. I don't remember ever having any paint peeling issues at this wash other that a Chevy pick-up earlier this year (also 2001), but it was in a self-serve bay. Both left a greenish colored primer behind. I feel this is a mfr. problem of delamination and of course she thinks otherwise. She obviously didn't leave happy and I feel she is going to persue action to make me pay for it.

Does anyone know of any issues with these vehicles and can you point me to any documentation to back it up.

GM has had lots of paint problems like that over the years. I don't know of any documentation, but there was some issue with the primer absorbing water when the paint would get chipped, then the paint would loosen and blow right off. It shouldn't be hard to find info that would help deny her claim if it comes to that.

Have her insurance contact your insurance and let them deny it, and they get to be the bad guy instead of you.

don't know any specific cases but you don't need to imo. Paint that adheres properly can withstand 1200 psi with an ss wand tip right on the finish.

try it out for yourself on an appropriate test car.
