Paul Newman

As most of you know, Paul Newman passed on the other day. I was a boy in the 60s when 'Butch Cassidy' came out. I was a young man in the 70s, losing very amateur races in my Formula Vee when he was winning them in his Datsun. I was an adult in the 80s when he showed me what a man was in "Absence of Malice" and "The Verdict." I was maturing in the 90s when he showed me how to age with grace. He had a life well lived.

Newman had the unique quality of being a "man's man" in both the roles he played and his racing skills yet someone the ladies really went for. Usually if an actor is appealing to the ladies men resent his good looks and sex appeal. I will always like his line in Butch Cassidy when they were forced to jump into the stream and Redford was reluctant because he couldn't swim. "Hell, the fall will probably kill you."

Hollywood seems to be pretty screwed up today and although he hadn't acted in a while, a man with his character will be missed.
