Need help adjusting Rain X

APW

Well-known member
After the Rain X is applied I have HP rinse followed by SF rinse. Only the passenger side of the vehicle was beading up properly. The chemical output seemed to be fine, changed the injector anyways. I put a delay before the Arch starts around the vehicle applying Rain X. I also put a delay before the HP rinse starts after the Rain X. It seems to me the Rain X needs time to sit on the vehicle before it takes effect? After the two delays I put in, it started beading better on the drivers side, but now I notice white streaking on the hood of my truck. Please chime in on what adjustments you would make. Thanks

Just a thought, but I would suggest not rinsing the RainX off with the high pressure. Most all of the applications I see do a spot free after the RainX and then a dry. My guess is that you are blasting it off.

I don't hp the rainx type product I use. It is however followed by 2 pass LP fresh water rinse from the halo above. Then cc or spot free. Beads like crazy. Glad I never tried hp rinse doesn't sound great.

High-pressure is typically used as secondary rinse when washing with reclaim water. Low-pressure and/or spot-free would be primary rinse.

Yes, Rain-X is polymer and it needs some time to make initial bond with surface before rinsing off whereas most of the curing process occurs after wash.

Hope this helps.

Just a thought, but why in blazes doesn't the guy you buy it from know how to properly apply it? I am so sick of these chemical salespeople who just drop off a container and hand you a bill.

He was right on how he told me to apply it. I called ZEP and talked to their Rain X man. I think I have another issue going on. We are wondering if I have so much moisture in my air that it could be diluting the chemical. Im installing a air/water separator to see if that helps.

Sounds like a stretch. Do you have a chance to try it without a hp rinse, just to see.. Or had you been running it like this successfully and just got this problem recently? What's applied before the rainx? Could it be affecting it for some reason... You may need a little less chemical if it's streaking.

It's been set up this way for a couple of years and has worked fine. 3x foam goes on before the Rain X.

OK that answers that question... Good luck finding the issue!

Do you hp after the trifoam? I assume the trifoam is fully rinsed off the offending side of the vehicle.

I do HP rinse after 3x. I wouldn't say it gets the 3x off 100%. Still a little bit of suds on glass on the offending side. Maybe I should slow down the HP rinse and see if that helps.

They say it doesn't bond well if there is soap on the surface during application. I think your getting close to finding the problem... I hope. :)

Yeah the passenger side pass pushes the trifoam on the roof back to the drivers side.

I've had to work against that, I wish ryko would have added an option for an additional fresh water rinse after trifoam hp and before rainsheild. They do three fresh water passes after the rainsheild, I'd like to have one of those before the rainsheild for this reason. Haven't figured out a way to do it yet so just have to make sure the trifoam rinses fully, or I don't put too much foam on.
