Metal Halide Bulbs

Can anyone tell me if there is way to check Metal Halide bulbs with a volt/ohm meter or any other method? I have several that were left at my wash and I don't want to have to try them in my fixtures if theres a quicker way. Thanks

Just look at the arc tube inside. If it's almost clear, it's never been used. If it's blackened, it's been in use for a while. If it's very black and shows yellow pitting on the ends, it's either spent or has been in service for the length of its useful life.
