Medeco coin vault lock won’t turn

Hello: I can’t get my coin vault open—the Medeco lock (bought from JC) won’t turn at all, even with the backup key. I’ve already tried:

- Primary + backup keys
- A light oil
- Wiggling the key while lifting/pressing/pulling/pushing

No obvious signs of tampering from the outside, but it’s possible. Any tips to get it open without damaging the vault? Break the lock?

Thanks

We open it monthly. It was replaced about three years ago after someone tampered with the previous one. We've tried oiling it multiple times and have applied quite a bit of force to turn the key, but it does not move at all.

I can try the hammer option or use the vise wrench to turn it, but I'm afraid the key will break.

My recommendation: use a lock pick to push on each pin several times to free one that may be stuck. Locks that sit low to the ground get dust and grit blown into them more than a common lock thats hip high.
Try turning the key in the opposite direction to free a pin that may by stuck. I keep a peice of black electrical tape on the key openings and drip holes of my ankle high locks.

Also spray the lock down with something like PB Blaster or Kano Kroil penetrating oil, I gave up on WD-40 years ago . Don't put a pair of vise grips on the key you probably break the key off. Do you have the key number of the lock in case you have to get a new lock.

Something must have got in the lock or someone messed with it. I would spray it down alot with wd40 or any penetrating oil and then hit the t handle with a small hammer as your trying to open it with the key. Just lightly nothing crazy. If that or a lock pick dont work then just call a professional locksmith.

If you or your locksmith mess up the vault box itself then let me know because I have a bunch of them on the shelf.

FWIW I buy a stainless steel hinge from HD and signs from KR to cover the vaults. Keeps debris out, locks wont freeze in the winter from being sprayed, and plus if I see someone lifting it up then I know there up to no good.

Locksmiths around here charge $150+ just to say hello, and so many "locksmiths" are just drill and replace guys with no real skills or knowledge
I guess I got a good one then. I’ve only had to use him a handful of times mostly for re keying front door locks after I fire an employee. I don’t think any time was over 50 bucks.
