This is a blurb from the lastest Costco mag.

A car wash offering a loyalty card nearly doubled customer retention by changing thier offer from "Buy 8, get 1 free" to "Buy 10 washes, get 1 free--and we will start you off by crediting your first wash 2 washes.

Interesting. So by giving the illusion they have a head start on a goal, they will be more likely to continue with that goal till finished.

Well, they said that someone did a study, which gives it some creditably.

We all know that perception is a person's reality, so it makes sense that if their perception is that they are 2 washes towards a free one, its better than if they think that they are only 1.

Now I just need to take Hamiltons Value Card people "Points to Partners" and Hamilton to add a loyalty card version to their lineup. Ive been asking for 2 years, and they have been meeting and working on it for 2 years.

I have to believe it is easier to ask someone to "just swipe this card" each time you use the wash and earn free washes than to ask them to pay for 9 washes up front so i can give them an extra wash.
