M5 Upgrade for old laser

Have any of you invested in upgrading your old laser 4000 with the m5 package? If so, are you satisfied? We are considering the upgrade just to improve the appearance of our wash. We will probably also be adding the Rainx package. Any thoughts?

I priced a brand new WW bridge for my double bay wash...I can do both my bays for what they wanted to do 1 M5 enhancement. The M5 enhancement uses your existing pump station anyway, just replaces the bridge and current JO. That's a ton of money to do away with the T-bars and have virtual impact protection. I saw a retro kit for the 4000 that will take care of impacts automatically on PDQs website. $1000 for the kit.

raisetheprice, keep in mind that PDQ does offer just a LW4000 replacement bridge as well. You would not need to buy the full M5 enhancement package.

Peaches, did you go with the M5 upgrade package and will you be putting the Rain-x out on the high pressure cycle?

The Laserminder kit is a software upgrade that allows the laserwash 4000 to back off and continue washing if we get an impact.

If the machine strikes a trailer hitch or mirror, the arch will back off and then continue washing the car, and it will remember that it hit and back off on that one side on each cycle till the end of the wash.

If we get a second impact durning the wash we default to kicking the car out as we do now

At the end of the wash we reset to normal wash. If we get a shear bolt break, a locking bracket on the arch will latch if the arch swings back and keeps the impact switch on forcing a person to inspect for the broken shear bolt.

Any questions feel free to contact PDQ.

Mike.. If the arm does not flop back down after it bumps a trailer hitch does it then shut down? seems to me many times we have to push the arm back down before resetting.

Peaches ... this may be a good upgrade if your machine is old, but you can easily add rain-x to an existing 4000 ,and still have foaming wax also. I have used a programmable relay to do this to many 4000's

Lag, with this relay are you putting the Rain-X out under low pressure?

Yes... For the controls I share output y24(foaming wax) ,and have a trigger that sets the system for rain-x. I then reset with the outside drive forward light of the next wash.

It also involves adding a solenoid, and running a hose to your overhead manifold ,and adding a check valve.

If you have triple wax ,you may need to share the rain-x signal with a LP soap pass.We do not have triple wax so I simply share the foaming wax output.

I have used a system with latching relays from Grainger ,and have used a Siemens logo! smart relay. I like the smart relay the best.

I am not positive but I think PDQ may also have a fix for adding another LP pass also, may be worth checking into

The new software will allow you to have an additional LP pass if you have up to and including the output 70 card. It is fully programmable just like all other passes. (it allows you to have trifoam and a lp wax pass thru arch)

As long as the impact switch is not activated the machine will continue to run like normal. If the lasermind "sees" the impact on, it will not allow the machine to continue.

If your arch is not coming back down you need to adjust tension on arch, and possble clean up the area on the shaft where the collar rides up and down for the activation of the impact switch.

In testing we have see as long as the arch comes back down enough so the impact switch is not activated that the movement of the trolley-arch will make it go back to normal.
