More specifically, I use H.264 compression.

Most standalone DVRs do, and most of those don't allow for alteration to the video recording format.

By changing the record quality and/or the record framerate.

I think it's set to highest quality. I thought this would be best to capture any needed details.

I believe the unit uses H264.
