Laserwash PDQ 360 problem

Last October we had Laserwash PDQ 360 installed, worked fine until about 3 months ago. Now the main pump will arbitrary start on its own and spray water at 35 gpm until till the overload trips, this can be anywhere from an hour to 3 hours. 2 months ago our distributor came out and said that some of the software files had gotten corrupted and reloaded the software files. Everything was fine until now, it’s doing it again. Has anyone else experienced anything like this with the Laserwash PDQ 360? Like most everything in the car wash industry, once the sale has been made, equipment installed your pretty much on your own.

Wow, that sounds like a nasty problem.

Have you caught it in action and actually seen the plc, ect, telling it to turn on? In other words it receives 24v signal to actuate the motor starter.. If so what other signals are active at the time?

When this odd activity comes to mind I'm thinking: is the contactor sticking? Doesn't sound like it... Next, stray voltage or wires touching somewhere that shouldn't. Many times vibration or temperature can make it show up intermittently. Lastly for the most bizarre some type of control based on temperatures, like door controls.. A wire is put where it shouldn't be and the only time it causes a problem is when the certain temperature is reached.

I've experienced all three above in one way or another.. :)

It's Just some ideas Randy.. I don't have a LW, but never too many ideas for this type of thing.. Good luck.

Had almost the same exact thing happen a couple months after install. Came in one morning and the big pump had been running for over an hour. Now mine did not trip the msp, but it turned out very simply to be a fried relay on the output card. Those output cards fail more often than you think do to the thin pcb contacts of the relay. Now it can only be one of three things, output card, contactor, software. I guess if it were me I would check for voltage at the coil on the contactor and work backwards from there.

Randy, one suggestion I can make is verify on the "about" page that all of the node software versions (except wash activation) match the conductor version. I have seen where these have not been automatically updated when the conductor software gets upgraded. There is a manual process to upgrade them if required.

Otherwise as others have said, we would need to look at a mechanical issue with the node, output card or contactor.
