landscapers mud/grease

we have a problem with local landscaper that is washing his trencher mud into our bays. signs are clearly posted, etc. have his tag number. does anyone know how i can track this guy by his tag number without having to go through local police. thanks
 
Check with your local Dept. of Motor Vehicles. In California, they have a "commercial requestor" program that allows qualified businesses to run license plate searches. If you apply, you might need to explain that you will be needing this to respond to vehicles either abandoned on your property or to file civil or criminal complaints. In CA, the fee to do this is $50, and I think it's good for 2 years. Your state might be different.

I get the registered vehicle owner name, but no address. So I either look up the name in the phone book or use http://www.zabasearch.com to search out anyone.

I've found over 90% of the folks I was determined to find. So it's not a perfect solution but it's the best method I've found.
 
Why can't you use the local police? They should be able to issue a criminal tresspass warrant against him which would mean he would be arrested if he ever comes back. I don't know of anything that would be more effective.

For $25 you get a year of look-ups (up to 250) from PublicData.com - they've had detailed listings of 90% of the numbers I've entered, but it's limited to about a dozen states.
 
great site. appreciate the advice. this was exactly what i was looking for. also, does anyone know where i could actually print the laws/ordinances for n.c. that spell out the law assoicated with washing construction equip grease, oil, mud into the city sewer system. thanks again.
 
Washman9, Call the police. If you have it posted correctly call the police and have them cited. Ask your nice policeman for a ?Restitution? form. Fill it out and give it back to the nice policeman. When the person goes to court the judge will fine him and order him to make restitution, I always make the amount on the restitution form high, it sends a message that there actions will not be tolerated, $375 is not a bad number. I?ve been there and done this more than once. By getting his license plate information and sending him an invoice for the cleanup will not do anything, he?ll just laugh it off and toss the invoice in the garbage. They seem to have a different attitude when there?s a policeman standing on your door step. If you want to find out what the ordnances are that you could have him charged with contact the city attorney?s office or do a search for your state. But it has to be posted.

I have an account with publicdata.com and can run a guy's tag in about 60 seconds while he's still in the bay.

I did that once just recently - a few months ago I had seen someone on camera dumping household trash in the cans and filling several of them. I went through a couple of the bags and got a name off of some of the trash, but the address was old and was a dead end. Friday evening while I was there I saw the same car come in, and I immediately ran the plate on PublicData.com. The "Previous owner" listed was the trash dumper, not the guy driving it. It saved me from a potentially embarassing confrontation.
 
I need cameras so bad, I just had a guy do an oil change and a full front end grease job in one of my bays. He left a greasy mess and his empty oil containers all over my bay. With eight bays it will be a pretty penny to cover it all.
 
what do you think of making a picture and putting it around the car wash so his family or friends could see it and let him know.
i am thinking of doing this and would like other opinions
 
Did you see the camera on the eBay store? It's weatherproof, or at least it's supposed to be - I had one fail because water ran down the wire and got in the housing, so I have since dabbed silicone sealant around the wire and they've been fine.
 
I did, and for that reason. I wanted to see as much of the bay as possible. It has a wide-angle lens, and if I tilted it down some more I'd get every bit of the bay.
 
I prefer to use a DVR card that goes in a computer and uses its hard drives. Rather than "hooking to a computer," it makes the video directly accessible. Most stand-alone DVRs don't really hook to a computer, they just communicate through internet or local access network.
