For some of us where we are looking to controlling mostly just things like contactors, relays, safety circuits & HMIs ... I is good to see the PLC training & understanding the PLC potential better. I remember the forum's founder William Pitzer really advocated & utilized the PLC approach.

For things like motor control, simple LCDs and web interfacing some of the following could potentially prove to be more practical:


Especially it seems that the Arduino Based Solutions could be better IMHO for when "cookie cutter firmware" does not get us where we need to go. There are freelancers good at C & C++ such as Fiverr etc who can be contracted in such a way so as to somewhat guarantee their work.
