Once the head is off, you just pull it out. If it doesn't want to come out, grasp it with pliers or something similar. Nothing actually holds it in other than being pinched between the head and the crankcase.
Use channel locks (aka water pump pliers) and turn/pull at the same time. I would not use any sort of penetrating oil - that might cause the o-ring to swell and might make it stuck worse.
