Help w/"New" Road Salt Carpet Staining

Waxman

Super Moderator
What have you tried anything (method and or chemical) that works well (quick n effective) on white crusty road salt stains on carpeting and floormats?

Seems like the new blend here in New England (Home of the Stanley Cup Champ Boston Bruins if you hadn't heard).

Not looking for any theories, really. More of someone with recent hands-on experience; thanks!:D

Road salts may be salt, magnesium chloride or calcium chloride. Mag chloride is the most popular since it deices in lower temps compared to salt. To remove stains use a acidic solution made with equal parts water and vinegar. The acid in the vinegar will breakdown the mag chloride as it sits on the stain. It may take a few times but it should remove the stains.
