I am self employed and my wife may be quitting her full time position with a large company soon. If she quits, she will lose her health insurance. When I looked into buying health insurance for the two of us several years ago, I could not find any companies that would cover my wife's pre-existing conditions. Is is still tough to get coverage for pre-existing conditions? Anybody have any suggestions for getting health insurance?

Are you a member of the local chamber of commerce? Mine talks about health insurance plans for chamber members in their radio ads. May be something to research, esp. if you're a member.

Usually, if you have been insured before then the new company can't discriminate about pre-existing conditions. Call your Insurance commissioner for your state's laws.

I took early retirement from my day job in 2006. I rolled my company paid health ins. into a private policy for me and my wife.

The monthly premiums are high and I?ve tried to get cheaper quotes from other companies. All would insure me but not my wife because she had cancer in the early 90?s. Blue Cross and the one AARP uses were included in the group that would not insure my wife.

Been there done that. We found that we could join the Chamber of commerce in a larger city in our state and get the Blue Cross Blue shield thru Chambers Choice. We had to both be employees in one of our businesses and they had to accept all conditions. You would also be able to offer it to your employees and family employees. My wife had several things that would keep her from getting insurance otherwise.

If I had my way I would live without insurance and do like all the illegals do and use the emergency room if I ever needed anything. My wife said no way and she rules the roost even if she doesn't know it.

I used to spend about an hour a day in different volunteer capacities with the local school district and city. Different positions on zoning boards, etc. The wife says get insurance, and I am too cheap to buy it so I now drive a school bus 3 hours a day in place of all my previous volunteer activities. I get the same civic satisfaction of contributing to my community while making a meager wage and getting my families insurance provided. I own 5 ss washes and spend about 20 hurs a week on them and about 20 hours a week taking kids to school and taking them home. It works for my schedule.

I didn't vote for Obama and don't agree with his socialistic leanings, but for pure selfish reasons, am anxiously waiting for national health care.
