My hamilton validator shuts down intermittently with a 6.1 Error. I looked it up in the book and is says the error is "cheating attempt" and to cycle power to correct. My question is how does the validator arrive at this error? I was at the wash working in the general area of the autoteller when this error occured so I doubt it there was an actual cheating attempt with me close by.

A false cheating attempt code means it needs to be recalibrated or serviced.

Most of the time when I see a 6.X error code on the XE validator it’s related to the rear gate fingers in the back of the validator. When the bill passes under the fingers they go up and drop with gravity if they don’t drop fast enough or hang up for a Nano second the validator will shut down. You can try cleaning the validator with alcohol and doing both of recalibrating procedures, but I doubt if will do much good. The best thing would be sending it in for repair.
