Hamilton controller repairs...Here's the guy.

Recently, I had an ACW go down. When I opened the door I was greeted with the dreaded "burnt motor" smell that we have all experienced at one time or another. I reluctantly reset the GFCI to try to locate the problem, only to have it trip immediately as sparks flew out of the controller. I pulled it out and found a significant burnt place on the board with some of the circuit strips actually peeled up. I thought to myself, this will be expensive. I called our old buddy Randy and he recommended a place to send it. I just got it back, and here is the repair. A couple of jumper wires saved this expensive controller.

In this world of "throw away and replace" attitude, it's nice to know that there is someone out there that "gets it". Most of us aren't made of money and appreciate someone going to a little extra trouble to save someone a lot of money.

I want to give a shout out to Dan at

X-cel Electronics of Nevada

And of course, our old buddy Randy.

I.B. Washin,

You point out something for all of us to what to watch out for in this day & age of sooo many expensive printed circuit boards. We have 2 PCBs on each of our 16 laundromat dryers. One of the PCBs has a design flaw that when a relay sticks a certain way it burns a conductor path located on the board. By golly, we finally figured it out ... we are on to it ... & we do as what X-cel Electronics did. We do as similar jumper thingy & the board is as good as new again. It helps to have a good workbench with a lab grade grounded temperature controlling soldering station with a magnifier light though. Now if we can talk Dan or Doug over at Gin San & other companies to coach us a bit more on whatever can go out on a zillion PCBs ... then we might start broadcasting even more so ... on how wonderful & fair everything in life is!!!

Hopefully, we will start testing our first designed by us (glup) PCB for the upgrade of our Wasco Gen4 variety of laundromat washing machines soon ... so we will have a chance to walk a mile in some of those manufacturer's shoes ... & maybe the opportunity to eat even more "humble" pie that is already part of our steady diet.

This is good news for all. Keep the info handy so we can support them. I had a board go bad from one of our major suppliers, and was told by tech support to send it in. While looking at it I noticed they had soldered, yes soldered. a fuse to the board, and it had failed. A small jumper wire later and I had the customer back in operation. OK, I won't hurt myself by patting me on the back.
