Hamilton Changer Not Giving Change

I looked through some old posts but most that pertained to this problem had a Mars conversion. About two or three times a month someone will put a five or ten in my Hamilton Dual changer and it will not dispense any quarters. I checked my video and it looks as though the customers are telling the truth! I have not converted my validators to Mars. When I go to check them are always still working with no error codes. I do not have my model # but they were purchased new in 2004. Not sure how to troubleshoot when it is an intermittent problem. Any help greatly appreciated.

Is it on one side or on both sides of the DRS that you’re having the problem? You’ve got a connection problem with the $5 line that goes to the controller. I’d try cleaning the pins first. Get a can of electrical contact cleaner and spray the plug that goes into the validator and then plug and unplug it into the validator 5 or 6 times to help clean off the pins. It wouldn’t hurt to do this on the plug that plugs into the Stacker. Do not get the contact cleaner spray on ant plastic, it will eat up the plastic, the white plug on the harness and validator is OK. Also unplug the long plug that plugs into the controller a few times, this will help clean the contacts on the controller. Turn the power off when you do this.

It is actually happening on both sides. I noticed today that one had a 4 then 3 flashing in the LED. When I ran a bill through the 4 and 3 went away. This probably why I didn't see the error code before. I would always run a bill through before opening the cabinet. Thanks Randy, I will give your troubleshooting steps a try. If you know what the 4 3 code is let me know. I have the error code sheet tucked away somewhere that I will look for.

Some years back there was a bad problem with $5 bills like you describe - a friend of mine noticed they were cut a tiny bit wider than they should be, then if they didn't read properly they'd hang trying to get returned. The validator would cycle back and forth a few times trying to reject it and would end up dropping it into the stacker and never going out-of-service.
