Hamilton ACW alternate card reader

Does anyone out there in the ethos know if you can replace the Hamilton credit card reader with one from another manufacturer? Actually I should rephrase that. Can you replace it with another and have it work would be better wording. Thanks in advance.

Mac, that’s a pretty big question. What model ACW? ACW4/5 push pull reader, Goldline reader, is it a retro fit credit card system? To answer your question No, you can’t take a reader from another manufacture and use it in a Hamilton ACW, Hamilton uses a proprietary card reader in most of the equipment. I think Brush industries has a reader for the retro fit ACW4/5, I’ve never tried one. Why do you ask? In other words what are you trying to do?

10 years ago I installed WashGear on 3 ACW 4/5 machines. Two were the factory push/pull readers and the other was a factory non-CC machine. All are still in service today.

I believe Mac is asking about the Credit card reader, not replacing the complete system. Yes it is possible to replace the complete system with something else.

The card readers from Hamilton are not exactly proprietary, but the firmware is. You can buy most of the readers Hamilton uses from other sources but they won't work, and for the same reason no other manufacturer's readers will work.

The reason for asking this is the wash is having issues with the card system working on a regular basis. Seems like every week something happens. Will check out the Cryptopay.

I have thought of using the Cryptopay for our ACW5's but I am worried that it would throw off the reports, which we use to verify that there haven't been any successful cheating attempts. Currently, we verify with both the count of the ACW Controller's Audit Report and the count on the POS's Manager Report. I would love to know from real world users, does the Cryptopay sales report as Cash Sales or Credit Card Sales on the ACW Controller and POS Manager Reports?
