Hamilton ACW-4 Validator failure

My validator on my ACW-4 quit accepting bills and was flashing 3 4 3 4 3 4, or 4 3 4 3 4 3, not sure which way. I replaced with my spare to get it back up. I will be looking at it closer tomorrow. Any one know what the code means, or should I get it packed up and sent in for repair. I did not get to mess with it too much as it was a busy day, so I just wanted to get it taking money again.

Thanks,
Lighthouse.

You must have a HVX changer. 3.4 is a Side sensor out of adjustment. 4.3 is head noise to high. recommend clean roller.
If indeed is a HVX I would not bother fixing it. HVX is obselete.

on an XE validator 3.4 is a token note programming error.

Go to hamilton website and click on the manual tab and then pick the type of validator and you can read the manual to troubleshoot.

If you need to get a validator go to ebay.

If it’s an XE validator, clean the validator white rollers and sensors with rubbing alcohol, never use a cleaning card in a Hamilton validator. Then try recalibrating the validator with the white paper first and then the side scan sensors. If this doesn’t work you’ll need to send it in.

I have a lot of problems with my XE validator stops accepting bills after a storm with power bumps. I tried a different validator and have the same results. Cycling power fixes it. I am about to install a battery backup UPS on the autoteller. Has anyone else tried anything simular?

I had the same problem with my Hamilton Controller. Every lightning storm and power outage would trip the circuit breaker on the controller. Randy suggested against using a UPS and advised to put a surge Suppressor inline. I got this one and installed it about a month ago.

We've had several severe lightning storms since I installed it and so far the controller stays running. So instead of a UPS, you might consider a surge suppressor. So far its worked for me....

I have surge surpressors on everything. It hasn't helped my autoteller. I think its more of the power going off for a few milliseconds then coming back on that is disturbing mine. I was also thinking about putting a UPS on my PLC for the automatic. The UPS is also a power filter. It takes AC voltage converts it to pulsing DC then converts it back to AC so it is a lot cleaner power in the end.

The cheap ones are not power filters. They just pass the voltage through unless it's interrupted, then switch over if the power fails. There are UPS devices that include a power conditioner.

What's the problem with putting a UPS in the ACW? I did this many years ago, and my power problems went away. I haven't had a controller go bad since. Before that, controller repairs were common.

The only problem I have now is forgetting to replace the battery every three years or so. When the battery goes bad, the UPS starts "beeping". It's a new customer complaint now, "I went to put my money in your machine, but it was making this funny beeping sound and it scared me away........".
