D&S Quicksilver/Super 5000/5000 owners

Just wanted to introduce myself. i'm new to the carwash business (3 years, 4ss bays). i've just installed an iba ("Q"). opened Feb. in the "soft startup" stage currently. Just started marketing the automatic and doing around 100 cpw. Have about 1300 washes on the unit and need to start thinking about chemicals. best estimate cost per car is about $1.00. I've also tweaked the wash recipes from the generic ones provided by D&S. I only provide three wash choices; 7,8, and 10. I would like to converse with other D&S operators on chemical application rates, wash recipes and equipment malfunctions. I've toughed it through the startup stages basically on my own. my dist is a nice guy, but lacks the polished knowledge i now need and if he does have it, i've not been able to extract it. I need seasoned pros who have experience with D&S products and iba wash processes. i've been in industrial maintenance for some 30 years and not much about the "Q" is new to me.

Specifically, my top wash takes 6 minutes, the middlewash about 5.5. my throughput hurts me and would like to know the wash times (and machine travel speeds) of other operators and their chemical costs. I have trouble drying cars and have a drying agent i want to start using, but don't know when/how to apply it. i'm currently applying a wax on my final RO med pressure pass before the dry. also, what is "QUICKRAIN"? I haven't been able to get a definitive answer from my dist, what should i expect from it, and what do i tell my customers it does for their car? I have other issues ...

if your a D&S owner, especially of the "Q", please continue this thread so i can compile a member list of who to collaborate with.

thankyou

I am about to be running a quicksilver and an odyssey at the same location. I will get back to you and see if I have learned anything in a few weeks!

I have a D&S 5000 and my per car cost is around $1.54, but then my costs should be higher than yours coz the 5000 doesn't measure.

I use Warsaw:
534
536
Jazz
Weather Shield...
and feel like I get decent results, although I'd like to look in to powders.

Quick rain is an add-on for the 5000s which enables you to market products such as weather shield or Rain X as an upsale. Be sure to distinguish to the factory that you have a Super 5000 or regular 5000 when ordering the kit. I have done it and it is one of the single best decisions I have made in awhile. The Q should already have the option out of the factory. However, unless you are looking to add an $11 or $12 wash level, it looks like you already have your washes priced as if you had Quick Rain.

Good Luck and congrats on the new equipment

Mike
