D & S Quicksilver damages car?

Mazda Miata (1991) enters wash. Driver says gantry hit the rear/back of her car on first pass while applying presoak. She then got out of car and shut the machine down when she walked through the path of the lasers. There is damage to the panel between the tail lights. Surveillance camera doesn't show a lot as the sun was shining on camera. The gantry appears to have gone all the way down at the rear of car but the strange thing is there is no damage to the bumper under area that was damaged and the bumper sticks out beyond the damaged area. How did it get there without taking out the bumper? I cannot see the carriage or car move when that happened. There is paint from her car on the gantry. The other strange thing is the gantry stayed down at the rear of car for about 20-30 seconds. Is it possible the car is so low to the ground that the lasers could have missed the rear of the car entirely?

That was my first thought however, the paint on the gantry looks like a scrape.
