Changer Problem

We have a Hamilton Dual changer at one our locations. Lately the changer will dispense 3 or 5 quarters for a $1 bill. The machine doesn’t shut down it just shorts or over pays. I had my guy’s switch Hoppers from one side to the other but the problem is still there on that side. What could the problem be?

Check the chute for coins getting stuck. I had the same problem on my dual hopper American Changer. First customer would get three coins (1 still stuck in the chute just before hitting the coin cup). Next customer would come along and get her 4 plus the one stuck in the chute. I simply bent the chute downward a little more and the problem was solved.

Kevin,

Usually the problem is with the coin switch at the top of the hopper where the coin exits the hopper. The other problem could be the hopper motor not stopping at the right time. Also check for dust that collects under the coin switch, as this will cause both problems.

All of this would be great IF the problem followed the 'wrong payout' hopper. You said the problem still existed on the original problem side even with a switch of hoppers.

The only other problem it could be is with a wire connection or the controller.

Switch the controller from the 'bad' hopper side to the other side. Once you do this the 'bad' hopper and the corresponding controller will now be on the opposite side.

If the problem does not follow, it has to be something blocking the coins from exiting the hopper or a wiring problem
