cfl bulbs in series?

i want to replace a metal halide bulb with two -(large)cfl bulbs ,,, cant find 220 volt (8k to 10k) lumen bulbs,,,, can i wire two -120 volt cfl bulbs in series and attach to 220 vac ?(without hearing a loud pop wen initiate power)tia kemp childs,,,,,

Yes, wiring 220v AC in series will create 110v applied to each bulb.
