Cat 530 pump and motor issues

I'll try to be brief.
Cat 530 with a washed out head. Checked new heads or new 530, yikes very pricey. Found a local guy on Craigslist who just did a refurb and has 5 530's for sale at $100 each. I bought 3. Replaced old pump and used replacement has bad valves. Installed used pump #2 and still have valve issues. Replaced valves and everything is good. 3 weeks later the breaker trips. Reset the breaker and start the pump manually with the motor contactor and the motor has a low pitched hum and starts smoking. Unhook the belts and the motor runs fine. Install new spare motor and it makes a funny noise and the pump will only put out 900psi. It's been running for two days now to get me through the weekend but I'm worried about the motor. The pump seems to turn freely but it seems it might be putting too much load on the motor. Anyone seen this before? I don't want to burn up a new motor if it is a pump issue. If it's the pump, where to start troubleshooting?

Why didn?t you just replace the pump with a NEW one and be done with it. Down time and my time are worth more than the savings of buying 3 used pumps. Most of the used pumps I?ve seen for sale are junk, that?s why they are for sale cheap.

If you had the problem of "a funny noise and the pump will only put out 900psi" after installing a new motor, why didn't you suspect a pump problem at that point, especially when the old motor ran fine when you removed the belt?

There's nothing magic about a 530 instead of something much cheaper like a General. Customers will not know the difference as long as the pump is maintained.

James, what if you kept your pump with the washed out head and took the head from one of the pumps you just bought and put it on your pump and kept your valves also.

If all else fails buy a #516 Arimitsu, put the three you just bought and your old one on Craigs List.

I had Kleen Rite to sleeve a 530 head. I don`t remember what it cost but it was cheaper than a new head. Stainless steel sleeves in all ports.
