Cast housing mounted bearing or eccentric locking bearing

I ordered 8 pillow block bearings for my Jim Coleman WW 1.0 today from Grainger $48.00 each to be picked up Monday. See them here:

After I got home I found these off of VXB Bearings for $9.95 each online:

I don't want to cheap out on these but didn't want to pay 5 x as much for the same quality. I bought my tie rod ends off of VXB and they seem to be holding up great (but they do squeak more than some of the others I have used.)

I do not know enough about bearings to decide one way or another.

I did see in the description from VXB some bearings were Cast housing mounted bearing and others were eccentric locking bearings. Not sure what this means though.

I gave up using cheap Chinese bearings anywhere they are exposed to water. They seem to be ok for use in dry applications. I think the quality of the steel they use is a major factor in the price difference.

Just replaced some of these on my touchfree. On mine you can replace just the bearing and use the old housing. I was all set to buy the ones with housing included and they were $50 each. Just the bearings are $12 and change. I bought 6, used 2 and have 4 spares.

Why buy the housing, too if the old ones are okay?

BTW; it was a rough job; mine were quite seized to the shafts they were mated to and had to cut them off. Scarred the shaft and had to grind smooth; mushroomed the shaft and had to grind true. Fouled the threads on each end of the shaft and had to tap new threads. Took me all day but it was rainy, so no missed business.

Good luck!

Eccentric locking bearings means there is a collar with a groove cut in it and it locks into the bearing with a slight clockwise twist. The collar has a set screw that tightens to the shaft.

Thanks Waxman, I am assuming this is to keep the bearing from spinning in the collar which has happened on numerous occasions with my previous replacement "Dodge" bearings correct?

If I remember right, eccentric locking bearings should only be used on shafts that always spin in the same direction, such as a top brush shaft, but not a wheel shaft. Be sure to use Never Sieze when putting the new ones on.
