camera placement

I just bought a new camera system. One of my goals was to be able to read the 1" high error code on my control box. That way if I have an issue I can see from home whether I need to make the trip to the wash. I bought what I thought was a pretty tight camera to just point at the box. I placed it on the opposite wall pointing right at the box but I still can't read it. Before I try to reinvent the wheel does anybody have a simple solution for picking up that little number that I may not have considered? For some reason I feel like I will be slapping myself in the forehead and saying duh! when somebody answers this question.
Thanks!

you could also consider a PZT camera...it might be a bit more money but they are really flexible....that is if your software package allows for those cameras...most do

If your control box is not in the bay, you could attach a piece of sheet metal with a 90 degree bend to serve as a shelf and just use a webcam. Place it in front of the display and you should be able to read it over the internet.

If your control box is in the bay then I would suggest using a zoom lens on a waterproof camera.

The other option is to move just the two digit display (not the entire box) into the equipment room

Keep in mind that your leses will rarely be as clean as they are right off the bat. What seems close enough now may not be close enough when the lense gets some haze on it.
