Would you spend the extra $ for an ASME boiler storage tank?

If your facility is subject to state boiler inspection, you may not have a choice.
ASME approval is not required on water heaters with input of less than 200,000 BTUH and tank capacities under 120 gal.
Above those capacities, most states require ASME …including expansion tanks.
As far as I know, the exceptions are:
Alabama
Connecticut
Kansas
Montana
North Dakota
South Carolina
South Dakota
Wyoming

Do you have a more official link that states that ND does not require???? The boiler inspector seems to be a stickler about looking for ASME where a pressure vessel is involved?

No. And, you really don’t want take my word on it!

I had a bad habit of arguing with inspectors. They really don’t like being questioned about their “rulings”.

Maybe you’d like to see a list of projects where I was personally responsible for delaying the issuance of the CO…due to my confrontations with inspectors…and their bosses!

My boss even created a new company rule…in my name. It specifically stated that I was required to be in my office when any inspections were being conducted.

I am not sure how it is in other states but in ND ... the way it works out is that if you have boiler insurance included in your policy you don't have to pay as much for the total boiler inspection fee. The insurance Underwriter sends out their own inspector but a bill still comes from the ND State Boiler Inspections which is a division of the ND Insurance Dept.
