Maybe I need new clubs
Answered a call from a customer…expecting a complaint.

Me: Car Wash.

Him: Yes, I’m at your car wash and got $20 change for my $10 bill.

Me: Yeah, that happens when..

Him, interrupting: Yessir, same thing happened last week.

Me: Ohhh…really?

Him: Yessir. I just wanted to find a way to return your money.

Later that afternoon I found a $20 bill on the equipment room floor…he slid it under the door.

Restores my faith, donchaknow?

I think I’d be more concerned with how many other customers have gotten $20 in change for a $10 bill and not called to let me know that there is a problem with the changer over paying.

What can I do to prevent from happening again?

What make & model Bill Changer/Validator are you using?

I would assume that it just started. If it had been going on for some time it would have been coming up short when he balanced it. Does your changer come up short every now and then?

Cantbreak80,
You started to tell the customer "it happens when..." and you were interrupted. Under what conditions does it happen?

This story reminds me of the time I used an ATM in a convenience store. I asked for $100, and it gave me 4-$20's and a $50. (Never ever have I seen a $50 bill from an ATM).

I called the "having trouble" telephone number. After listening to my situation, the dude says, "Tell me again how much you lost, and we'll send it to you". I explain again that the ATM gave me TO MUCH.

"Hey mister, in 5 years of doing this....you are the first to complain about getting to much money. Obviously the mint screwed up when they delivered our bundled $20's. Today is your lucky day!"

I don't know about you, but after being in the car wash business for many years.....you know deep inside that the $50 belongs to somebody, somewhere.....yes?

We have rowes in our automatic tellers. just the other day one of them returned to many dollar coins.. the teller shut down the hopper and we were notified by text of a hopper problem..

As I am replacing the sensor on the rowe a guy pulls up ,and returns the extra coins he received.. I thank him ,and offer a wash for the future..He says no thanks ,that he just thought it was the moral thing to do..

Ya never know. Guy told me he was not happy with the wash. Why/ 2 reasons. 1. Too much pressure and
2. If he comes with a $20.00 bill no one to break it for him. (Our attended tunnel in the next building i open 7:00 am to 9:00 pm Mon. - Sat. and until 5:00 pm Sundays.
Told him outr high pressure followed industry standards. As for the change issue I figured if he hadno solution nothing I said would help him out (our changers take $20.00 bills. He could use extra quarters on the next visit.)

I believe a Mars validator with old firmware and a new $10 will cause this to happen.

I would make sure your bill acceptors have the latest firmware.
