Adams combo vac-- scent stopped working

Sequoia

AKA Duane H- 3 bay SS
I have a JE Adams combo vac with vac, turbo vac, and scent. When I first bought the machine, the scent did not originally work. It was determined that the manifold had gummed up due to lack of use/sitting in inventory. I cleaned the manifold and it worked fine after that.

Now, the scent has gone inop again. It pushes air out, but does not draw any product from either of the 3 scent bottles. I confirmed that the solenoid for each scent (attached to the manifold) is working. I can even disconnect the lines completely and it still does not draw from any of the lines going to the product.

Any ideas?

Does this vac have the peristaltic pumps for fragrance? If it does do any of the fragrances come out? Mine have 3 individual pumps the line gets hard after a while then the pumps won't turn. just need new pump cartridge.

If it uses the venturi in the gun to draw chemical, the fragrances may have washed it out.

I had this problem a year ago. After I changed from oil based fragrance to water based it doesn't happen again.

Pumps

It does not have any pumps. Apparently the air pressure in the gun causes suction which draws the product. The tech from the factory advised trying to clear any sort of jam in the nozzle in the gun, and if that doesn't work then disassemble the gun and look for any loose wires. I'll give those a try here shortly .....

Here is what I do.
1. Solenoids seem to "Operate" but do they really open. A simple test is to hold your finger over the gun opening. The air will back up into the fluid line and come out of the liquid hose. If it does come out, solenoid is opening. If it doesn't, detach the liquid hose from the EXIT side of the solenoid and try again. Make sure air comes out of the hose. If it does, solenoid is not opening. Repair or replace. If it does not then hose or venturi is clogged.
2. If hose, venturi or sloenoid is cloged you may be able to blow it open. Detach air line from compressor. Attach solution line from solution tank to compressor. MAke sure that selection is chosen. Turn on . Compressor may blow out any clogs in the solenoid or venturi.

Report back.

Fragrance

The machine is fixed although I am not exactly sure what the root cause was. It was one of three things, or maybe all of them.

I did disassemble the gun, finding a 3-way plastic manifold. One line is for air, one for product, and the third input had a separate, 2-way manifold to allow two separate products to be used. Looked like an old 2-way fragrance gun modified to now use 3 instead.

The 2-into-1 manifold was not securely attached; it was just kind of laying in place. I also found the center air supply hose was not secure, and air was bleeding back into the gun when product was dispensed. I took all of it apart and cleaned it thoroughly.

Then, I did as Earl has suggested, covering the outlet hole while it was running to blow pressure back into the bottles and clear the lines. This worked quickly for the line that went directly into the plastic manifold, but was a much longer process with the lines that went through the two-way manifold attached to the 3-way plastic manifold. I wound up taking it apart again and re-cleaning the two-way manifold very thoroughly.

At the end, I could blow pretty good bubbles back into each of the fragrance bottles by selecting that fragrance and covering the hole on the gun. After that, it was just a waiting game waiting for quite a while for the product to be re-drawn through the tubing that I had just blown out with air.

I like repairs that don't end with me ordering parts and installing an out of order sign!

Another tip. Once I get the lines cleared, I run some really hot not boiling(from the coffee maker or microwave) plain water thru the lines to try and remove any residue that might be lurking.

I use only Fragramatics-brand oil-based scents - they never clog anything. The Kleen-Rite stuff separates and leaves some thick brown stuff in the bottom of the jug that causes problems.
