Dry brush washers. I can’t keep doing this

I try to keep my price higher than the other SS washes. People who want quality will pay for it. Those looking for a cheap price will find it and go there. I still have to point out rules but if they are getting free services from me, I can't afford the, anyway.

    Anybody tried Universal boartex brushes?

Boartex bristles flattened out soon after installing and looked bad IMO. Took them right out.

What’re yall using for an air compressor?

Prior to being in the car wash business our family was in the tire business and we used a lot of air. QUnicy or industrial Ingersol Rand compressors were all we used. We had several QUincy compressors that ran for 30 plus years in that business without any issues. I hav e 3 Quincy air...

    Hitachi bill counter

My Cummins dual pocket is acting up and it looks like the company has sold out to another one and repair work looks like a pain. Does anyone have experience with the Hitachi dual pocket that Kleenrite sells.

So what would you do (self serve bay abuse)

Chris, you handled it well. I often have trouble with people who want to stay in the bay detailing their wheels and drying the car while people are waiting to get in. Every bay is full and people waiting and they don't care. I ask them kindly to pull out so then next person can wash. I have...

So what would you do (self serve bay abuse)

I run into that on a daily basis. I carry a square nose shovel for the heavy mud and use it first. Speeds up the bay cleaning. Don't let the 1 in 100 create a policy that eliminates 50.

    Automatic damage and stupid people

Claim will not include lost revenue. We got it back up and running. We have 2 side by side automatics and last time when we were down for a few months we found that the working one picked up the slack and maybe we did more overall. Seems like people see a small line and they wanted to stop also...

    Automatic damage and stupid people

Police report was already filed and a citation issued. That is how I got his insurance company. This happened at the same location 7 years ago and the automatic was destroyed. The guy ended up paying for a $175,000 IBA claim. This guy will get off lucky with about 5K in damages.

    Automatic damage and stupid people

We had a guy with a jacked up pickup with camper shell try to go through one of our automatics last night. Driving in he tore the clearance bar down but proceeded forward any way. Then he pulls into the automatic wash and knocks the top arm off of the L shaped wash arm. Stays in during the wash...

    BBB complaint

I once had a coupon mailer company put a coupon for a free car wash if the people would come in and ask for it. We did not authorize the coupon and so we denied giving out free car washes. WE explained that it was not authorized to people and they were fine with it except one guy who turned us...

    Chemical shipping cost?

You might be able to find a local distributor that will deliver free. I order pallet load quantity from Kleenrite to get free shipping. That is 36 5 gallon pails or 36 50lb boxes or combo of each. You can throw all your other stuff on top of that and gett free shipping to. For a small 5 gallon...

    Check you Carbon monoxide detectors

I went to lunch yesterday and came back to my office that is over the equipment room. I heard a strange beeping and found my CO monitor going off. Water heater had a exhaust leak. It was already up to 40 ppm. I mention this because 14 years ago I got bad CO poisoning here and did not have a...

Poll: I have no 'cell phone' signs at my wash

I have no Loitering signs. Amazing how many people pull in to a bay and then talk on the phone for several minutes before getting out to wash.

    More customer insanity

I think we are getting into a second generation of people whose parents just went to the tunnel washes because they were lazy and always only did it that way. New generation is just following their parents lead and never knew what a coin op car wash was. Now when they come to a SS wash they are...

2 calls on Sunday within 5 minutes of each other. Lady calls and says she has tried 2 bays and does not get high pressure out of either bay. I ask her if she has turned the dial and explain that spot free rinse comes out at low pressure, presoak is medium and the high pressure rinse and high...

Free Vacs VS. Free vacs with membership

Free vacuum with a dispensed token on automatic washes is what I do. Offering free vacs will attract lower tier clients and folks you don't want hanging around the wash. It gives the perception that services are worth less or nothing at all.
