    Dryers

Reminds me of an old school operator who used to run a full serve. His blowers did just that - moved the water around. Whenever anyone asked him if he considered getting something that did more, he would always reply: it gives my towelers at the exit something to aim for”. 😂

    Dryers

Have you considered getting a set of used blowers? There is a lot of car wash equipment I would not want to buy used, but blowers I would. As Blanco said, it’s a simple component, so if it works you can save in this area and spend elsewhere at your wash.

    Ditching Hot Wax

I use Simoniz and here was my progression as the newer chemicals became available. I started with Hot Wax on the top wash when that was the best chem they had. Added ceramic to that for the top wash when ceramic came out - never had a problem with them reacting. When Graphene came out, I...

    Advice with Angry Customer

I’m thinking you have a stronger case against him than he does against you.

Touchless w/ Free Vacs & no memberships.???

I think indoor vacs would be popular even in the warmer climates - especially during summer. Just keeping people out of the sun on those hot summer days can be very attractive to customers.

What to do with competitors tokens?

I’d just contact the new owner and be straight with him. Tell him your arrangement with the previous owner and ask if he’d be interested in the same arrangement. You take the time to sort, count and deliver his items, so it’s more than reasonable to be remunerated for that service. If he’s...

Recently Restored 3 Automatic bays to be working. What is the best Soaps to be running

The dirt, soil and road film contaminates have different compositions depending on the geographic location you are in. Factor in temperature, humidity and other climate variables and there are numerous variables that impact how chemicals will perform in one touch free car wash vs another.

Touchless w/ Free Vacs & no memberships.???

I think the places that do the free vacs just factor it into the cost of doing business and keeping the lights on. It’s not my mindset and I’d want to make money off of them, but it’s probably the only to justify all of the potential abuse. I’m surprised they haven’t found a way to use...

Touchless w/ Free Vacs & no memberships.???

This guys wash is a few towns away from me. He has two Petit machines and has the lot gated so that you cannot enter the free vac area unless you went through the wash. Hard to see the gate in this pic, bit he did a good job getting good traffic flow and preventing non-washers from using the...

Touchless w/ Free Vacs & no memberships.???

If his touchless competition upgrades their D&S 5000, they might still prep, so he’ll be competing against that still. The vacs will be a perk for him- I hate to see vacs given away for free, but if his competition preps and he doesn’t he might feel like he needs something to draw people in.

Desperate to put a IBA but land locked!

I would definitely suggest dryers, but if you absolutely cannot have them, I would be sure to have spot free rinse.

    Updating Car wash tunnel

There was a poster here a few years ago who did something similar to what Roz is saying. I think he had three touchless IBA’s and they each did their own package - slow, medium and fast. I remember the location being outside the US.

If they are prepping then they can’t really leverage the lower labor costs and 24/7 operation that IBA’s can usually provide. I’m sure the customers like the idea of a hand prep and having someone onsite, and maybe that makes it even more competitive with the conveyors. I wonder how many...

Dumbfounded with this wash in Bloomington, IN.

I think it would take the perfect storm for someone to find out. In my region, there are 12 Delta Sonics, 10 Go Car Washes, 1 Splash and Tidal Wave just built one. That is only a list of the “big players”. It doesn’t include people like me. In other words, I think a lot of places are so...

No doubt they can wash a lot of cars and do well if the demand is there.

In terms of throughout, I don’t see how even 6 IBA’s can match a tunnel. Realistically, you probably can only squeeze 12-13 cph out of a single IBA. That’s 72-78 cph for the site. The big tunnels are easily doing 100+. Now, how often is there a need to push that volume through- that depends...
