Follow Up, My earlier Post: : Newly refurbished Car Wash $1 for 5 Min. ???

Well, I had a chance to drive into my neighbor's newly opened "$1 for 5 minutes" Car Wash the other day. To my surprise, the sign that you can see from the street is very misleading. As I got closer to the sign it had some small, fine print on the bottom, which read: "Night Price 11pm to 6am"...

Newly refurbed self serve neighbor opening at $1 for 5 minutes

Thank to all for your input. There are plenty of cars in my area (near LAX) and I have done very successful social media advertising in the recent past as well. This will, at a minimum, encourage me to have all my meter box plates refurbished in the near future. Other than that, our place is...

Newly refurbed self serve neighbor opening at $1 for 5 minutes

The car wash has been there for many years and I think this may be new owner, possibly a chain operation. The wash was owned my an older man and his son prior. Thank You BBE.

Newly refurbed self serve neighbor opening at $1 for 5 minutes

Hello! My closest self serve neighbor has totally refurbished over the last 8 months and is re-opening soon. He's opening at $1 for the first 5 minutes wash. Not sure what the next dollar will bring yet. I have owned for 30 years at my car wash and I have lots of repeat business. I'm steady at...

Solar Power at a Self Service Car Wash?

Hi. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions on solar power for a self serve car wash? Mine is a 5 bay and my electric bill now averages about $300-$400 per month, depending on the season. Thanks!

    Plastic Trash Can Thefts

They are at it again. The knuckleheads took about 4 of our small plastic trash cans recently. These were old with weak bottoms too. They left a new one that I just purchased a few days ago. Any suggestions rather than chaining them all up? Maybe bring the news ones in at night? Thanks!

    Car Washes Broken Into/Changers Hit

Car Wash Burglaries That's horrible and makes you feel so vulnerable. Four suggestions may help: Alarm system with cell phone back up if they get in and cut the power. Video Surveillance. Use TOKENS instead of quarters. Remove currency more often and remove all locks on the rear changer...

    $5 Per Gallon Gas

Unfortunately, it looks like $5 a gallon gas may be in our future. What effects do you think this will have on your self-service car wash and what, if anything, will you do differently to promote your wash when the time comes?

    Foam Brushes

NO Hogs Hair Here 25 years in the business here and I have always used plastic foamy brush heads. No complaints and I have never had anyone request Hogs Hair brushes. I did try one once as a test. It lasted a week before it "pancaked" and I threw it away.

    Caught Him... Finally.

So glad that these animals are under arrest. Just FYI: Robbery is of the person. Burglary is of the property. Best, D.

Good here too, even with a few "express" washes that have opened nearby!

J E Adams vac break in

Went to Tokens We have had NO burglaries on our Vacs since we changed over to 100% tokens a few years ago. This also constantly deters "walk-ons" who used to come in for change only. Absolutely one of the best moves that we have ever done.

    Quarter to Token change

36 years in the business and I totally agree that "tokens only" is the way to go. We switched a few years ago and NO major problems at all. I said good bye to walk ons that got change only and to the burglars that were tearing apart my vac vaults. It's a safety issue too, and I honestly beleive...

    hot water in summer?

Hot Off We shut off the hot water a few years ago and I cancelled my account with the Gas Co. I have had very few complaints, if any. Seems like what's more important is high pressure, lotsa soap and the cleanliness and constant maintenance of the entire property.

    S/S Car Wash Solicitors?

Hi, There are more car wash solicitors now at our self serve car wash, hanging around and "helping" our customers wash and dry, etc. They think that they have "customers" here, but of course they don't and they are unauthorized on the property. I have to be diplomatic in telling them...

    Cleaning bay walls

For cleaning concrete block, we've been using pool chlorine for years. Buy it by the gallon at Home Depot. Spray it on, let sit for a few minutes and hose it off with high pressure. DO NOT spray on signs or get it on your clothing as it makes a stain that will be there forever. It works...

Car Wash worker chases off robber, ends up in jail.

PORTLAND, Ore. ? A car wash attendant chased off a would-be robber with a power washer ? and for his trouble got thrown in jail on an old warrant. A gunman wearing a skeleton mask strolled into Washman Carwash in Portland on Dec. 13 and confronted employee Chris B. Truax. "Give me your money!"...

    More break-ins in central Texas

Change and then Change My best advise after 23 years in the Self-Serve business is: Change to Tokens (minimizes chance for burglary) and leave the the rear door of the changer "unlocked" therefore also minimizing repair costs after the animals have their way with you. Also, leave little real...
