This bay may only be occupied if the meter is running.
They will either read it and not care or simply not read it at all. This is one of those things that require someone to be present in order to enforce it. And if someone is there, then signs are not necessary. I have signs that say no...
If there's a lot of mud, like it takes over 5 minutes to spray it down into the pit, I pull out a wheel barrow and shovel and dump it on a low spot in our grass. If you don't have grass, then you can put it into the trash can. (Careful with this, some places are funny about "wet" things being...
I read most of the posts in the archive here that pertained to customers and the frustrations of dealing with them when I started and I found it very helpful. Dumpers, loiterers, thieves, vandals, mudders, degreasers, pickup bed cleaners and in-bay detailers will become part of your every day...
After reading all of the replies in this thread, and replacing a $3000 water well pump, I decided to raise prices. Went from $1.50 for 3 minutes to $2.00 for 3 minutes and 23 seconds.
Startup: from 150 cents to 200 cents
Time per quarter from 30 seconds to 25 seconds
33% increase in startup

Yep, I've seen it. They think they can leave their trash wherever. I cleaned up after military personnel for over a decade when I was in myself. When we would leave an area, there would always be a team of lower enlisted that would stay behind and pick up trash. It's further exacerbated by the...
I found a completed credit card application, around 20 pages, in our trash complete with SSN, DOB, name, address and work history going back 10 years. I couldn't believe someone was so stupid to throw that in our open-top trash cans. No wonder identity theft exists, it's too easy.
You have me thinking about cold water as a way to disincentivize grease/oil cleaners.
I've already lowered my pressure and bought lower gallon per minute tips in order to discourage mud cleaners.
It's amazing how people feel like you owe them free dumping. I have a question for you more experienced car wash owners and operators. I have videos with license plates of people leaving full trash bags in my bay, others urinating in my bays and then throwing trash in it without spending a penny...
This was my feeling as well when I chose a spray tip with less gallons per minute and lowered my pressure a bit. When I see a lot of mud, I feel a little better because I know it took them longer to spray it off. If I have to shovel it up, at least I get paid a bit more.
Less indictable solution: be there to turn it off or be watching cameras remotely and have automation installed such that you can turn them off from your phone.
Not getting interest at $25/hour is very surprising. Current highest state minimum wage is $12/hour until 7/1/19 when D.C. goes to $14/hour, yes I know it's not a state. You are paying well unless it's a 2 hour a day pay time or something.
If they don't immediately rinse and leave the bay after I ask them to move, because I have other customers waiting, I turn off the bay (If all other bays are full and it's a busy day). When they come to me with a fully soaped car wanting to rinse off, I finish whatever I'm doing and make them...
We are 1.25 for 4 minutes here on vacuums and a customer left the vacuum before the time ran out. Another customer in a bay, that had just finished washing a brand new Jaguar, peels out around 2 corners and drifts in sideways next to the vacuum to use the remaining time. This is serious -...
PART 1 - SPRAY TIPS:
What spray tip do you use on your self serve spray guns? I have an interesting array of tips installed at the moment.
Bay 1: 1504 MEG
Bays 2, 3 and 4: 2507 IMEG
Bay 5: 2508 IMEG
Bay 6: 2508 MEG
Some things I've observed:
1. Bays 5 and 6 really let you feel the...
I'm in the process of installing credit card acceptance. I would probably get cameras that record 100% of license plates. I have 14 cameras right now, but I need 3 or 4 that are just a bit more high definition to record license plates at the angles and distances required.
Also, I have been...
This x 1000! I thought I had seen it all. There was a guy from Georgia in my unit that had to get a waiver because he couldn't pass the ASVAB (Test to enter the military). He took a girl's birth control because he thought it would keep him from getting the girl pregnant. But, I've been surprised...
