I know that this is a left-field option, but we have a setting for a fresh water flush to outboard motors. It is a separate hose line, with a fitting to clamp around the water inlet on outboards. Shown in the bottom left corner of this photo. From what I can gather, this seems to be pretty rare...
Our hoses "screw" up into the vac head, then we use a heavy duty black tape which I find doesn't degrade over time. It's like duct tape, but matt black and seems to be much better quality. Not sure of the brand, just from our local hardware store.
I won't comment on the specific numbers, as the US and Australia seem to have very different purchase price expectations. Therefore my Australian experience probably won't be helpful.
However my concerns would be:
- Buying on "future potential" is a risky proposition. We have purchased two...
From the outside, I think I probably remained quite calm. Whilst the young man became hysterical, I remained relatively polite. The trouble I have is that despite being calm outside, inside is an adrenaline-fuelled mess! Anyway, as of Monday it was back to our other business, with a whole bunch...
I've had a good run with customers for a while, but this morning had a young man spray painting parts of his 4WD and doing other maintenance tasks in a bay. I started politely and gently, asking him to move on and explaining that it is a paid car wash, not somewhere for him to work on his...
Just from my personal perspective, I'm a big fan of buying a business that has been a little neglected, but appears to have a reasonable foundation. You get the infrastructure already there, at least some customers to start with, and some revenue from day 1. If the business has been a little...
I have used some washes here in Australia that will automatically end the credit card transaction if the selector is left in the "stop" position for a set time, something like 20 seconds. I wish ours could do that, but no such luck.
So there was obviously lots of research done into the chemistry of carwashing, coupled with a clickbait title and a stoopid conclusion (I don't use carwashes, just give it a hose off). There was certainly nothing that showed carwashes to be a widespread scam. Also, I typically don't take my...
FWIW, some figures from Australia, in Australian dollars.
- Takings per bay each month approx $2000
- Costs approx. 47% of takings (for our particular situation, remaining 53% goes to loan repayments)
- Town of approx 1500 people, with probably another 500 in surrounding areas
- We take both...
It appears that Covid-19 had little overall impact on our wash. What we do notice at the moment is the MUD! We have had lots and lots of rain recently, which translates to lots of mud.
So no matter what happens, it has to end up with telling the guy to pack sand!
I agree with Randy's advice - many, many, many cars are washed at 1000 PSI + each day, and they are all ok. The wash is not the issue, the car is.
