I like the idea of a bay with low pressure, easier manual handling etc.
I think in the modern era that non-gender labelling might be better - agreed with edredtop.
We have a simple 3 bay, and the layout tends to lends all large & filthy vehicles to our big bay, and the smaller & cleaner...
Our pits are roughly 900mm x 900mm x 900mm in a 3 bay SS. I use a long handled shovel. Pretty low tech but effective.
To keep on top of it, I shovel about 40 litres of mud out of each pit each week.
I'm still very much working, but like the idea of volunteering after my small business days are over.
Whatever you do, make it quick. My Dad was retired for 3 months before he got really, really bored. Now we run an auto workshop together, along with 8 full time staff. Safe to say he's not...
If you believe that in small business you can just hire people to do all the hard work, you're sorely mistaken. Especially in early years when money is tight you will need to do as much as possible yourself to keep costs down. There is no way around it - small business can bring great rewards...
Please excuse my ignorance, but water vending units aren't something that I'm familiar with in Australia. Are these used in some areas because the water available from the town main supply isn't suitable for drinking? Or is there some other reason why people are seeking to buy water?
I reckon that I have a pretty good work ethic, but I certainly wouldn't have wanted a car wash at 21. As Randy mentioned, 24/7 committment and often pretty ugly work - shovelling mud, cleaning various unknown filth from bays, blowing dust out of vac filters etc. At nearly 50, kids older, no need...
Our dog wash is a good part of the business. Looking at our sales report for the last 90 days, the dog wash has revenue of 55% of our average carwash self service bay. And it is much less maintenance and much lower capital cost. Our particular design means that it only needs to be cleaned once a...
Blue lights used in some railway station bathrooms here in Australia to prevent inejcting into veins. Not very common, only in very worst drug use areas.
We run a Facebook page for our carwash, and also one for our automotive workshop. We find that the FB pages are not "game changers" that suddenly cause a step-change in revenue, but they are certainly a good part of the overall marketing effort.
I'm not very good at keeping our FB posts...
Well, I feel like I've finally joined the ranks of my American cousins. At our sleepy little car wash in rural Australia I had to clean out a bay full of maggots today. The worst part was that a quick check of the video showed that it was left by someone I know quite well personally. I think we...
We had a similar intermittent issue, but it tripped the main circuit breaker for the whole bay. It was initially only very rare, then got more common. After much searching, I eventually found a location where a brass pipe manifold was resting on top of a multi-core cable with 24VAC (very poor...
