The other day, my father and I had a conversation about going cashless. We take credit/debit as well. I'm against being cashless while he is for it. Here was our discussion:
Me: Bank tellers wash cars too.
Dad (scoffing): I don't care about bank tellers.
Me: Well, we're going to automate...
But if the huge merchants are demanding mag stripes, why is Mastercard going ahead with a phase out plan of them by 2029?
To the best of my knowledge, we're the only industry that relies heavily on swiping cards. Most places, you can only swipe your card if dipping the card does not work. Even...
For us, it was a good idea. We have them at three of our four locations (one is an IBA system too for a membership program, plus we have a brush conveyor for memberships at that location). Our touch-free LaserWash 4000s and M-5's had a lot of empty times. We clubs to compensate for that. We also...
Questions to Ask
1. Why does he want to sell?
What You Should Look At
This is a look into, but I would at least look into an in-bay automatic.
If there is no credit card acceptance, I would look into that. Cryptopay and Nayax would be most likely where you would go.
100% of the time when the Caller ID does not flash Potential Spam. I would say that in the last three years we've had that feature on our phone, only two of the thousands of calls we have gotten were that.
Relatively speaking, self-serve calls are rare. Our in-bay automatics and membership...
Nowadays, I would say that April, May and June tend to be the busiest months. I'm in Maryland, and we just don't get the snow like we used to.
More often than not since The Great Recession, I would say our winters have been sucky.
We tried a self-serve membership at one our car washes. For $19.99/month, customers would get $40 worth of time. We would give the customer a gift card.
It didn't work for us. What works for your IBA/tunnel wash is that there are a handful of car wash packages. With self-serve, we had customers...
In my experience, the distributors are good that way in the beginning, but once the warranty goes, it's pretty much sink or swim. I would definitely try to make business arrangements with employees of the installers. They can be of help later.
Anecdotally, I cannot say that customers are getting dumber. To me, dumbness has been a constant.
Going off of COVID, what I do find is that people have shorter fuses. I used to fire one customer per season. Now I'm firing about one a month. The damage COVID did on mental health cannot be...
Maybe for a time, but we'll be back to where we are now. When you have people whose job is to spend every waking moment trying to commit fraud, there'll be a "breakthrough" on the bad guys end.
I remember chip cards were supposed to be the savior.
What the original poster means is for their area, not nationwide.
Now onto the OP's query for insight.
1. There is hard work involved. Most of us here can tell stories of new owners/operators who came into a car wash, figuring it would print money with easy or no work involved. They end up...
I know Baltimore City forbids selling air. I'm glad the car wash we have it at is not located there, although as bad as Baltimore is, free air is the least of my worries with regard to the city.
